Türkiye food label requirements for packaging

Pre-packed food sold in Türkiye follows the Türk Gıda Kodeksi Gıda Etiketleme ve Tüketicileri Bilgilendirme Yönetmeliği (Turkish Food Codex regulation on food labelling and consumer information), published in the Resmî Gazete on 26 January 2017 (no. 29960, supplement) and last amended in April 2024. It mirrors the EU's Regulation 1169/2011 and has applied in full since 31 December 2019. Here is what goes on the pack, and how to lay it out.

Checked: 26 October 2026

The mandatory particulars (Article 9)

Article 9(1) lists them: the name of the food; the ingredients; the allergens of Annex 1; the quantity of certain ingredients; the net quantity; the best-before or use-by date; special storage and use conditions; the name or trade name and address of the food business operator; the business registration number or identification mark; the country of origin where needed; directions for use where needed; the alcoholic strength of drinks over 1.2% vol.; and the nutrition declaration. Article 11 adds the lot number.

They are given in words and numbers; pictograms and symbols may be added beside them (Article 9(2)).

Language and type size

The mandatory particulars are in Turkish (Article 18); other languages may be added beside them. They are printed in a font whose x-height is at least 1.2 mm; on packs whose largest surface is under 80 cm², at least 0.9 mm (Article 16).

The name of the food, the net quantity and (for drinks) the alcoholic strength sit in the same field of vision (Article 16(4)). On packs whose largest surface is under 10 cm², only the name, the allergens, the net quantity and the date are required on the pack (Article 19).

Allergens and dates

Allergens are named in the ingredients list and set apart from the rest by type, style or background colour (Article 24) — on Turkish packs usually in bold capitals.

Foods that spoil quickly carry a “son tüketim tarihi” (use-by date, STT); the rest a “tavsiye edilen tüketim tarihi” (best before, TETT) (Article 27). Turkish packs often print TETT or STT beside the date.

Nutrition declaration

Energy (kJ / kcal), fat, saturates, carbohydrate, sugars, protein and salt, per 100 g or 100 ml (Articles 35–37), in a table with aligned numbers — or in one line where there is no room (Article 41). Values per portion and % reference intakes on 8400 kJ / 2000 kcal may be added. Foods in Annex 14 (single-ingredient products, water, herbs and spices, tea and coffee, packs under 25 cm²…) and drinks over 1.2% alcohol are exempt.

Halal on the pack

Halal certification in Türkiye is voluntary. A halal word, logo or mark goes on a pack only with a certificate from a body accredited by the Helal Akreditasyon Kurumu (HAK, set up by Law 7060 of 2017); use that body's official logo file and certificate number, never a redrawn crescent.

Imported foods that carry any halal mark are checked at the border (Helal Uygunluk Belgeli Ürünlerin İthalatına İlişkin Yönetmelik, 2023, and the import inspection communiqué of 2026): the certificate must come from an accredited body, or the mark has to come off the pack.

Laying it out in Drint

  1. In the studio, click Insert → Product label and choose Türkiye: one field per mandatory item, headed with the Turkish words packs print (İçindekiler, Net miktar, Tavsiye edilen tüketim tarihi, Parti no., Üretici…). Paste the client's Turkish text word for word — Drint does not translate — and the check beside the form lists what is still missing.
  2. Set the name, net quantity and date where they share one field of vision on the front or back panel.
  3. Make the allergen words bold inside the ingredients.
  4. Insert → Nutrition table → Türkiye builds the “Beslenme bildirimi” per 100 g; switch to one line for small packs.
  5. Tick Helal logo for a frame for the certifier's official logo — only when the client has the certificate.
  6. Check in Export lists text below the minimum size.

Questions

Must the label be in Turkish?

Yes. The mandatory particulars must be in Turkish; another language can be printed beside them. Imported goods may carry a Turkish sticker over the original label, as long as it shows every mandatory particular and does not cover the original.

What is the minimum text size?

An x-height of 1.2 mm, or 0.9 mm when the pack's largest surface is under 80 cm². Measure the x-height (a lowercase x), not the cap height.

Is a halal logo required?

No — it is voluntary. But if the pack carries a halal word or mark, the product needs a certificate from a HAK-accredited body, and imported goods are checked for it at customs.

TETT or STT?

Use-by (son tüketim tarihi, STT) for foods that spoil quickly and could be a risk after the date; best before (tavsiye edilen tüketim tarihi, TETT) for everything else.
