How to add packaging dielines and 3D mockups to Cursor, VS Code and Claude Code
By Nguyễn Thành Dân, Founder of Drint ·
Developers can add Drint's packaging tools to Cursor, Visual Studio Code (VS Code) with GitHub Copilot, and Claude Code by pasting one address: https://drint.io/mcp. No package is installed. On 3 November 2026 the server answered with 11 tools, including FEFCO dieline search and 3D mockup search. Claude Code reported it "Connected" after one command.
This matters for teams who build packaging shops, print-on-demand stores or brand sites. The die sizes and mockup links they need can come straight into the editor, from the same source the designer uses.
Key points
- One address works in every editor:
https://drint.io/mcp, Streamable HTTP, listed in the official MCP Registry asio.drint/drint. - Claude Code: one terminal command, tested on 3 November 2026 with Claude Code 2.1.285.
- Cursor: one click from the Cursor Directory, or four lines in
~/.cursor/mcp.json. - VS Code: a
.vscode/mcp.jsonfile in the workspace. - Mockup search and dieline lookups need no account. Dieline files need a Drint account: Free gets 3 SVG dielines a month, PDF / AI needs Pro.
What does the Drint MCP server give a developer?
The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard that lets an AI assistant call outside tools. Drint's server exposes 11 tools. Three work without signing in:
| Tool | What it returns |
|---|---|
search_mockups | Packaging and print mockups that match a brief, with size in mm and a model id |
open_mockup | One mockup in an interactive 3D viewer, in hosts that show MCP Apps |
list_dielines | Drint structures and FEFCO / ECMA codes, with default sizes and a start link |
The other eight act on a Drint account: get_dieline (SVG on Free, PDF or AI on Pro, at an exact size), make_dieline (DXF and CF2, Pro), list_my_projects, open_my_project, review_inbox, send_to_3d_studio, my_drint and wait_for_upgrade. The full list is in the Drint MCP explainer.
How do I add Drint to Claude Code?
Run one command in your project folder:
``bash claude mcp add --transport http drint https://drint.io/mcp ``
Then check it:
``bash claude mcp list ``
On 3 November 2026 the check printed this line:
``text drint: https://drint.io/mcp (HTTP) - ✔ Connected ``
Claude Code can also install Drint as a plugin from its GitHub repository, drint-io/drint-mcp:
``text /plugin marketplace add drint-io/drint-mcp /plugin install drint@drint ``
How do I add Drint to Cursor?
The fastest way is the Drint page in the Cursor Directory. Click Add to Cursor. The page shows the exact config it passes to Cursor, which is only the server address.
To add it by hand, open ~/.cursor/mcp.json for every project, or .cursor/mcp.json for one project, and add:
``json { "mcpServers": { "drint": { "url": "https://drint.io/mcp" } } } ``
Cursor then lists Drint among its MCP servers, and the agent in chat can call its tools.
How do I add Drint to VS Code with GitHub Copilot?
Create .vscode/mcp.json in the workspace:
``json { "servers": { "drint": { "type": "http", "url": "https://drint.io/mcp" } } } ``
Start the server from that file, then open Copilot Chat in Agent mode. The Drint tools appear in its tools list.
The VS Code steps follow Microsoft's documentation. We did not test them in VS Code for this guide.
What happens when a tool needs my Drint account?
The server answers with HTTP 401 and a WWW-Authenticate header. The editor then opens the Drint sign-in page in a browser. Your editor never sees your Drint password. It receives an OAuth 2.1 token that you can remove at any time in Drint → Account → Sign-in & security → Connected apps.
Search and dieline lookups never ask you to sign in.
What does a real request look like?
Ask the agent: "Which Drint dieline is FEFCO 0201, and what is its default size?" It calls list_dielines. On 3 November 2026 the server returned:
```text 1 Drint dieline structures for "0201":
- rsc: Shipping carton, flaps meet – FEFCO 0201 (default 300 × 200 × 220 mm)
```
The structured part of the answer also carries a start link, https://drint.io/studio?tao=rsc&L=300&W=200&H=220, which opens that carton in the Drint editor at that size.
A search for "kraft paper bag" returned 8 mockups. The first was a wide-bottom supermarket kraft bag at 320 × 180 × 300 mm. Each result carries an id that open_mockup accepts. A full test of search quality and speed is in the Drint MCP benchmark.
What this means for developers who build for packaging
A shop builder can ask for the default size of a carton and get the same numbers the Drint editor uses. A product page can link to a 3D mockup page instead of a flat photo. A brief can go from the editor to a designer with a start link that opens the right dieline at the right size.
The editor does not design the pack. It finds the structure and the mockup. Artwork, print checks and file export stay in Drint, where the label-law check also runs.

Try it
Add https://drint.io/mcp to your editor, then ask: "Find kraft paper bag mockups on Drint." Or open the Drint MCP help page.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to install a package?
No. Drint runs the server. Each editor only needs the address https://drint.io/mcp.
Is it free?
Mockup search and dieline lookups are free without an account. A free Drint account includes 3 SVG dielines a month. PDF / AI, DXF and CF2 need Drint Pro, which has no download limit.
Does it work in Windsurf, Cline or Codex?
Yes. The same address works in any client that supports Streamable HTTP. The repository README lists the config for each.
Why does VS Code use "servers" and Cursor "mcpServers"?
Each editor chose its own file format. The address inside is the same.
Can my team share one setup?
Yes. Commit .vscode/mcp.json or .cursor/mcp.json to the repository. Each person still signs in with their own Drint account for account tools.
