How to use this mockup

  1. Start from the 120 × 120 × 150 mm sample or type your own size.
  2. Open it in Drint on its real dieline and place your artwork on the die — bleed and folds are already drawn.
  3. Turn it in 3D to check every side, then export a picture or a video, or stage it with props and light in Drint 3D Studio.

Trade tips

  • Give a lid-and-base box a contrasting lid or a ribbon tab so it opens easily.
  • Foil and embossing on a textured paper feel more premium than more ink colours.
  • Coated (couche) paper prints photos sharply; laminate it so the folds do not crack.
  • Design straight on the die at your size: cut, crease and bleed are already drawn, so the printer can work from your file.

Questions

Is the shoulder box mockup free?

Yes. Turning it in 3D, setting your own size and designing on it are free in the browser, and commercial and client work is allowed. On the Free plan 3D mockups carry a Drint watermark grid and pictures export at 1K; Pro removes the watermark and adds 4K pictures and 2K video.

Can I use my own size for the shoulder box?

Yes. Type your size in mm and the mockup is rebuilt to scale, with its dieline.

Can I get the shoulder box dieline for printing?

Yes. The die is drawn at the size you type. A free account downloads one SVG dieline a month; PDF / AI needs Pro; Pro has unlimited dielines, DXF / CF2 for the die-maker and the CMYK print PDF.

Can I put the shoulder box in a scene with other products?

Yes. “Use this mockup” opens it in Drint 3D Studio, where you stage it with other products, props and light and export pictures or video.

Construction

Two separate pieces: a base and a lid that slips over it. Each is a greyboard tray V-grooved at the four corners, folded up and taped square, then wrapped in printed paper that turns in 15–20 mm over the inner edge. The lid can cover the base fully (deep lid) or partly (shoulder showing a band of the base). Inside, an insert of EVA foam, wrapped board or velvet holds the product.

Choosing board and material

The core is greyboard: 1.5–1.8 mm for cosmetics, jewellery and light goods; 2–2.5 mm for wine, porcelain and heavy gift sets. The wrap is 120–157 gsm: coated paper for sharp photographic print, or a textured, pre-coloured fine paper when the feel matters more than ink. The inside is lined with plain coated or matching coloured paper.

Finishing

Laminate the wrap (matt or soft-touch) so corners don't scuff or crack. Hot foil, metallic foil and embossing are done on the wrap before it goes onto the board. Spot UV works best on matt lamination. On fine papers, foil and debossing usually look better than many printed colours.

Preparing the print file

Design two wraps, one for the lid and one for the base, each with its top, four walls and the 15–20 mm turn-in. Let the pattern run across the fold so no white shows at the edges. Keep the logo at least 8–10 mm from the lid edge, because wrapping can drift 1–2 mm. Every finish (foil, emboss, spot UV) is its own vector file in 100% black, in place.

Common mistakes

  • Sizing the inside to the exact product: the 2 mm board and the insert take room, so the product won't fit or the lid won't close. Add the insert's thickness and 1–2 mm of tolerance.
  • Small type or thin borders close to the lid edge: the wrap shifts when folded and the border shows the drift.
  • Unlaminated wrap on a dark box: corners crack and lose ink after a few openings.

Questions and answers

How is a rigid lid-and-base box different from a paper one?

A rigid box has a 1.5–2.5 mm greyboard core wrapped in print, so it keeps its shape, carries weight and gets reused; a paper lid-and-base box is folded from 300–400 gsm ivory or duplex board — far lighter and cheaper, but not as stiff.

Deep lid or shoulder lid?

A deep lid covers the whole base and looks like one solid block. A shoulder lid shows a band of the base, which suits a two-colour look and makes the lid easier to lift.

Can a rigid lid-and-base box ship flat?

No — it is glued for good. For big shipments over long distances, a collapsible rigid box (fixed with magnets, set up on arrival) saves volume.
