The base's four flaps are folded and glued at the factory on a folder-gluer (usually at 2–4 points). The box ships flat; when the body is opened, the base flaps slide into each other and lock. The top is a regular tuck end. It is the fastest base for a packing line.
Ivory board of 300–400 gsm; heavy contents like glass bottles or can packs need 350–400 gsm or E/F-flute corrugated with a laminated print. Duplex works when the inside needn't be white.
Lamination, foil and spot UV as on other folding cartons. Glue areas on the base must stay free of lamination and UV, or the glue won't hold — the maker will ask you to leave them clear on the file.
Use the maker's own dieline, since the base flaps differ by machine and die-maker. Mark the base and side glue areas as no-ink, no-lamination zones. Once locked, the base shows overlapping flaps, so put a barcode or text only on the largest flap.
Both carry medium loads; the crash lock is strong because it's glued, the snap lock because of its locking flap. The big difference is packing speed: a crash lock is ready the moment it's opened.
The base flaps are designed for a specific folder-gluer; makers usually have standard dies by size, so take theirs and design on it.
Yes — base and side seam are pre-glued, so it ships flat, takes little storage and is ready when opened.
