Trade tips

  • Run the artwork 3 mm past the cut line and keep text 3 mm inside it.
  • Check the text direction on the side panels when folded: it is easy to end up upside down on a flat die.
  • Ivory board prints best on its coated face; keep the uncoated inside to one colour.
  • Design straight on the die at your size: cut, crease and bleed are already drawn, so the printer can work from your file.

Questions

Is the box with built-in insert, snap-lock bottom mockup free?

Yes. Turning it in 3D, setting your own size and designing on it are free in the browser, and commercial and client work is allowed. On the Free plan 3D mockups carry a Drint watermark grid and pictures export at 1K; Pro removes the watermark and adds 4K pictures and 2K video.

Can I use my own size for the box with built-in insert, snap-lock bottom?

Yes. Type your size in mm and the mockup is rebuilt to scale, with its dieline.

Can I get the box with built-in insert, snap-lock bottom dieline for printing?

Yes. The die is drawn at the size you type. A free account downloads one SVG dieline a month; PDF / AI needs Pro; Pro has unlimited dielines, DXF / CF2 for the die-maker and the CMYK print PDF.

Can I put the box with built-in insert, snap-lock bottom in a scene with other products?

Yes. “Use this mockup” opens it in Drint 3D Studio, where you stage it with other products, props and light and export pictures or video.

Construction

One die-cut sheet with a single glued side seam. The base has four flaps: fold flaps 1 and 2 in, swing the large flap 3 with its lock slot down, then tuck flap 4 into the slot — no glue. The top is a regular tuck end with dust flaps. Each box is set up by hand in a few seconds.

Choosing board and material

Ivory board of 300–350 gsm for cosmetics, food and small housewares; for goods over 1 kg, consider 400 gsm ivory or E-flute corrugated. Duplex works when the inside needn't be white.

Finishing

Matt or gloss lamination, foil, spot UV on the front. The base takes the load when lifted by hand, so laminating the base too keeps the flaps from fraying after repeated set-ups.

Preparing the print file

Design on the dieline at the true size: four body panels, the lid, dust flaps and the four base flaps. Watch the direction of type: the lid opens toward the back, the front is the main face. The base panel is the place for the barcode and production details. Add 3 mm bleed and leave the glue flap unprinted.

Common mistakes

  • A large picture across the base flaps, expected to read as one: the flaps overlap and cut it up.
  • Using a snap-lock base for very heavy goods, or lifting by the base: the lock pops open.
  • Key type close to a body crease: a 1 mm cutting shift moves it onto the side panel.

Questions and answers

How does a 1-2-3 snap-lock base differ from a crash-lock base?

A snap-lock base is folded by hand with a simple die and holds fairly well; a crash-lock base is pre-glued at the factory and locks itself when opened — very fast to pack, but it needs an extra gluing step.

How much weight does a snap-lock box hold?

It depends on board and size; a mid-size 350 gsm ivory box is typically used for goods under 1 kg. For heavier goods, test it or move to corrugated.

Does a snap-lock box ship flat?

Yes — the side seam is glued and the boxes ship flat; the packer locks the base when using them.
