Trade tips

  • Put the main design on the face the shopper sees first on the shelf, not on the lid.
  • The tuck flap is the first thing a buyer sees when opening: print a note or instructions inside it.
  • Clear PET: reverse-print on the back so the artwork is protected from scratches.
  • Design straight on the die at your size: cut, crease and bleed are already drawn, so the printer can work from your file.

Questions

Is the PET box with crash-lock bottom mockup free?

Yes. Turning it in 3D, setting your own size and designing on it are free in the browser, and commercial and client work is allowed. On the Free plan 3D mockups carry a Drint watermark grid and pictures export at 1K; Pro removes the watermark and adds 4K pictures and 2K video.

Can I use my own size for the PET box with crash-lock bottom?

Yes. Type your size in mm and the mockup is rebuilt to scale, with its dieline.

Can I get the PET box with crash-lock bottom dieline for printing?

Yes. The die is drawn at the size you type. A free account downloads one SVG dieline a month; PDF / AI needs Pro; Pro has unlimited dielines, DXF / CF2 for the die-maker and the CMYK print PDF.

Can I put the PET box with crash-lock bottom in a scene with other products?

Yes. “Use this mockup” opens it in Drint 3D Studio, where you stage it with other products, props and light and export pictures or video.

Construction

The base's four flaps are folded and glued at the factory on a folder-gluer (usually at 2–4 points). The box ships flat; when the body is opened, the base flaps slide into each other and lock. The top is a regular tuck end. It is the fastest base for a packing line.

Choosing board and material

Ivory board of 300–400 gsm; heavy contents like glass bottles or can packs need 350–400 gsm or E/F-flute corrugated with a laminated print. Duplex works when the inside needn't be white.

Finishing

Lamination, foil and spot UV as on other folding cartons. Glue areas on the base must stay free of lamination and UV, or the glue won't hold — the maker will ask you to leave them clear on the file.

Preparing the print file

Use the maker's own dieline, since the base flaps differ by machine and die-maker. Mark the base and side glue areas as no-ink, no-lamination zones. Once locked, the base shows overlapping flaps, so put a barcode or text only on the largest flap.

Common mistakes

  • Laminating over the glue areas: the base pops open on the packing line.
  • Designing on a self-drawn dieline and sending it to the maker: the base flaps don't match their gluer.
  • Mandatory information on a small base flap: hidden by other flaps once the base locks.

Questions and answers

Is a crash-lock base stronger than a 1-2-3 snap lock?

Both carry medium loads; the crash lock is strong because it's glued, the snap lock because of its locking flap. The big difference is packing speed: a crash lock is ready the moment it's opened.

Why does a crash-lock box need the maker's dieline?

The base flaps are designed for a specific folder-gluer; makers usually have standard dies by size, so take theirs and design on it.

Does a crash-lock box ship flat?

Yes — base and side seam are pre-glued, so it ships flat, takes little storage and is ready when opened.
